At Milestones Behavioral Services, growth was never meant to stop at the clinic door.
Its impact reaches far past its walls into homes, families, careers, and an entire community learning to grow together.
Three important commitments have guided their work: supporting children, the families who walk alongside them, and the staff who carry the mission forward every day.
Seeds of Change
Every plan at Milestones starts with the same question: what does this child need to thrive, not just in the clinic, but in the world. Melissa Raymond built her career and Milestones around individualized ABA services tailored to each child.
“It isn’t just about the child’s individual skills. It’s about teaching them the skills they need to more easily participate and be part of our community,” she explained
Milestones measures progress by seeing whether skills travel into other environments. It could be a classroom, a job, a birthday party, or just a family dinner.
Every individual deserves a full seat in community life, and Milestones’ work is aimed at making that possible, one skill at a time.
Deep Roots
From day one, Raymond built Milestones around a belief that’s remained a strong pillar of every care plan they create: you can’t support a child without supporting the family around them.
“If we’re only supporting the child but not the family, we’re missing a really big part of that child’s life,” she said.
To determine goals for the child, behavior analysts ask families what they want to do together, and what’s been out of reach. The goal is to build skills that are carried out of the clinic and into the family’s everyday life.
Growth rarely happens overnight. More often it shows up in small, unmistakable moments, like the first “goodbye” at drop-off, or a child joining in at a family gathering. Families are at the root of all care plans, because their growth and their child’s are inseparable.
Nurturing Growth
Working as a line technician or behavior analyst at Milestones is treated as more than a job, it’s an investment Raymond makes in every person she brings onto the team.
The goal for Raymond’s staff is to leave Milestones with skills and confidence that stay with them.
Together, they’re the hands that turn Milestones’ mission into daily practice.
Flourishing Together
Everything Milestones builds internally with clients, with families, and with staff takes shape in a more inclusive, connected SWLA.
Raymond has always prioritized giving back through community events, including their own original events. The idea for an inclusive Trunk or Treat came from a simple frustration: most Halloween events aren’t built with kids with developmental disabilities in mind, and too often, that means those kids are the ones left out.
“Instead of having the child left out, we want to do the opposite: include everyone, in a supportive, fun environment,” Raymond said.
This year will mark the third annual Inclusive Trunk or Treat, born from watching families experience real joy at an event built just for them, and Raymond’s drive to make more of those moments possible.
Raymond knows firsthand what it means to belong to this community, and how much harder it can feel for families who don’t always find an easy way in.
The work at Milestones exists to close that distance so that every individual and every family they serve gets to be a supported part of SWLA without judgment.
That’s what Milestones has done since it opened, and what it intends to keep doing. Everyone deserves a place to belong and Milestones is making sure they find it.
